  As we head in to winter, Lujack Nissan encourages everyone to take notice of their tires.  The tires your car is riding on can have a dramatic impact in several ways.  They help determine your gas mileage, how your car handles, breaking distance, how it rides, and how it performs in different types of weather.  There are differing opinions on whether different tires  for winter are necessary or even advantageous if you live in an area where climates are varied.  Here, we try to help guide you through the process of choosing which tires are best for your car.

  A few tips when deciding:  Consider your driving conditions, as well as your driving habits.  If you live in an area where snowfall is prevalent and you drive "aggressively" no matter the conditions, then  you are probably a good candidate for snow tires.  They will help with your braking distances, keeping you and those around you safer.  Even if you are a cautious driver, snow tires are something to consider.  All-season tires simply can't be the best tires for all seasons, they are designed to be acceptable for all conditions. 

  Buy the best tires you can afford.  Especially living in the Midwest, we never know what the weather will bring us.  Having the best tires on your car you can might keep you out of an accident, and will help your car perform better.

The 2016 Nissan Sentra

  Nissan has been on a mission to bring more cohesion to its lineup. Starting with the Nissan Murano crossover, the automaker introduced a new design language that has since made its way onto the new Maxima and Altima. Now the 2016 Nissan Sentra gets updated styling and technology in four models, the base S, the SV, the SR, and the top-of-the line SL, to share more with its upscale siblings.
Past Sentra models held less of a striking design compared to other models in the Nissan lineup, but now, that has changed.
  The new Nissan Sentra features an updated front fascia, grille, fenders, hood, and Nissan’s signature boomerang-shaped headlights. The low-beam headlights now feature LEDs, and the SR and SL models get LED accents. The new Sentra also gets a revised rear fascia with boomerang taillights. The SR and SL models come with two new 17-inch wheel designs, and the SV offers a new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheel design.

Nissan unveils IDS Concept Car

   Today, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled a concept vehicle that embodies Nissan's vision of the future of autonomous driving and zero emission EVs: the Nissan IDS Concept. Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn said: "Nissan's forthcoming technologies will revolutionize the relationship between car and driver, and future mobility." After leading the development and expansion of EV technology, Nissan once again stands at the forefront of automotive technology. Nissan Intelligent Driving is Nissan's concept of autonomous drive technology and represents what Nissan believes next-generation vehicles should be. The new 2016 Nissan Altima

   A major mid-cycle update brings a new look to one of Nissan's most popular models; the Nissan Altima. In a market where the competition is constantly updating, a mid-cycle refresh isn't what it used to be. Previously it has been an occasion for tweaking the front fascia and restyling the taillights, it has evolved into much more.
   Nissan describes this update as "one of the most extensive mid-cycle makeovers in Nissan history". It starts, naturally, with a new look. The change required not just a new fascia and new headlights, but a reshaped hood and fenders, as well. The 2016 Altima features a prominent, V-shaped grille and boomerang-shaped headlights. The boomerang theme is repeated in the new tail lamps, part of a rear end that also sees a new bumper and trunk lid. Fresh 17- and 18-inch wheel designs and a new paint-color offering (Deep Blue Pearl) complete the picture. Inside, there's an updated center stack, as well as changes to the seats, center console, and steering wheel.

Is your car ready for Winter?

 

1.  Check your battery.  Getting stranded in the cold with a dead battery is no one's idea of a good time.  If you have a maintenance-free battery, there should be a window on the top of the battery that tells you the state of it's charge.  If it's not, check the fluid levels, and top off with distilled water as necessary.  if you're not sure how to check your battery, most any auto parts store will be able to check it for you.

2.  Check your tires.  While a dead battery can leave you stranded, balding tires on snowy and icy roads can lead to a much more dangerous situation.  If you live in an area that gets a significant amount of snow, you may want to consider snow tires.

3.  Check your wiper blades.  Going cheap on your wiper blades or ignoring them can lead to very unpleasant driving in the winter.  Bad wipers can't do an adequate job of keeping the snow and ice off of your windshield, no matter how high you have the defrosters blasting.

4.  Check your fluids.  Check your owner's manual, but for most vehicles, the cooling system should be flushed every two years.  If your vehicle is overdue, prior to winter setting in is as good of a time as any to have it taken care of.  Also, refer to your owner's manual to find what type and what mixture of anti-freeze you should be using.  You will also want to keep your windshield washer fluid full, using a fluid that is designed for not freezing in the cold weather.  If you get stuck behind a truck throwing dirty snow at your windshield, you will be glad you did.  As always, change your oil regularly.

5.  Keep your vehicle supplied.  Normal emergency materials are key for the winter.  If you do get stranded on the road, you want other driver's to be able to see you.  Roadside flares are not excessive to keep on hand.  Keeping extra warm cloths, gloves, and a blanket or two are always good ideas as well.  Be sure to have lock de-icer on hand- and keep in mind that it doesn't always help to have it in the car.  Some in your house, and some at work are a great idea. 

6.  Care for the interior of your car.  In and out of the snow, ice, and salt can be particularly rough on your carpets.  Be sure to have at least an inexpensive set of floor mats for your car.  Better yet are the kind that can hold the water and keep it away from your carpets completely.

7.  Let your car warm up (and revving your engine doesn't really help).  Keep in mind, though, thieves are excellent at watching for cars that are running but unattended.  Have an extra door key that you keep on you and lock the doors while it is warming up, even if you are at home. 

8.  Be safe.  Allow extra time to get where you are going, leave plenty of space between you and the driver in front, and use good common sense.  It's better to arrive a few minutes late than not at all. 

The 2016 Nissan Lineup

New for 2016

   Leading the way for 2016 are two more all-new models. The eight generation Maxima "4 Door Sports Car" and the redefining, diesel powered Titan XD pickup truck. Two of the company's best selling models, the Altima and Sentra will also see significant restyling in the 2016 model year. The upcoming year will also see the introduction of Siri Eyes Free function to the Nissan lineup, beginning with the Rogue and JUKE. The new Nissan Maxima

   Large, front-wheel-drive sedans have fallen out of fashion, yet the highly fashionable, nicely finished new Maxima should carve out a niche for itself. Give Nissan head designer Shiro Nakamura points for boldness. You won’t confuse the Maxima for an Altima—or anything else, really. Under the skin, its big 3.5-liter V-6 has been reworked to produce 300 hp, and it now has some 80 fewer pounds to move.
   The sporty Maxima SR variant gets firmer springs and dampers, a thicker front anti-roll bar, and 19-inch aluminum wheels shod in grippy Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. It also has a horizontally mounted damper up front to help soothe body vibrations. Active ride control taps brakes to quell fore-and-aft pitching.
   Luxury is the real selling point here. The hushed and commodious cabin is a high point. Genuine stitching traces the instrument panel, and drivers twirl a handsome, flat-bottomed steering wheel. Nissan’s fatigue-fighting Zero Gravity seats have robust bolsters. A tandem 8.0-inch central screen and 7.0-inch driver’s display likely set the class standard for sharp graphics and no-fuss operation.

Driver Attention Alert System

Driving while being tired is a serious threat to the safety of everyone on the road, including yourself. Almost all drivers consider it dangerous and unacceptable for someone to take control of a vehicle when they are having problems keeping their eyes open.

The statistics behind tired driving are astounding. We all know there is not enough time in the day to accomplish everything we set out to do and many drivers find themselves behind the wheel tired.  More than 1 in 4 drivers have admitted to driving tired in the past 30 days. One in five have reported doing this more than once, with 2% reporting driving tired regularly.

As a result, there have been around 328,000 police-reported crashes per year, including 6,400 deaths.

Nissan has set out to help alarm sleepy drivers when they may be dozing off behind the wheel. Nissan has developed the Driver Attention Alert (DAA) system, which detects erratic driving caused by drowsiness.

Using steering angle sensors, DAA monitors steering input patterns to establish a baseline or a "snapshot" of how you were driving. It then continuously compares subsequent driving patterns to the most recent snapshot using a statistical analysis of steering corrections.

DAA will alert you when it senses you are tired by:

1. Sounding an audible chime

2. Displaying an amber coffee cup in the instrument panel

3. Displaying the message "Take a break?" next to the coffee cup

This system is currently available on the 2015 Murano, and will be available on the 2016 Maxima Platinum Grade - coming Summer 2015.

The Benefits of a Certified Pre-Owned Nissan

Getting your vehicle ready for the Summer

  With Summer right around the corner, it's time to make sure your car is ready for all the summer road trips. The summer's heat, dust, and stop-and-go traffic, will take their toll on your vehicle. Add the effects of last winter, and you could be setting yourself up for a breakdown. You can lessen the odds of mechanical failure through periodic maintenance. While some of the following tips are easy to do; others may require a skilled auto technician.


1. Tires. Tires. Tires!

   Tires are the single most important part of your car. A worn or underinflated set of tires can be detrimental to handling and braking and can lead to blow-outs at any speed. If you own dedicated sets of winter and summer tires, inspect both sets of rubber as you swap them out for seasonal duty or storage. Even if you use all-season tires, check for bubbles in the sidewalls (usually a sign of broken belts in the tire's carcass), uneven wear, or visible wear bars. If you see any of the above, replace the tire. While you're at it, make sure that your spare tire is properly inflated.

 

 

 

2. Brakes

 

   Brakes should be inspected as recommended in your car's manual, or sooner if you notice pulsations, grabbing, noises, or longer stopping distance. Minor brake problems should be corrected promptly. Checking your brakes regularly can help you avoid costly repairs down the road.

 

 

 

3. Check your Oil

   There is nothing more detrimental to your car than not checking your oil. Not getting your oil regularly changed can end up costing you a couple hundred or even a couple thousand dollars in engine repair. Pull out your car's dipstick and check the level and color of the oil — if it's still a shade of amber and meets the fill mark, you're fine. If it's amber but low, top it off. If it's black and nasty, change it ASAP. Regular oil should last 4000-5000 miles with no problem; synthetics should go for 6000-7000 miles between changes. (Both of these are general guidelines and vary with driving style and climate.)

 

 

4. Cooling System

   Believe it or not, but the most common cause of summer breakdowns is overheating. The cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled about every 24 months. The level, condition, and concentration of the coolant should be checked periodically. (A 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water is usually recommended.) DIYers, never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled! The tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps, and hoses should be checked by a pro.

 

 

5. Battery
    Batteries can fail any time of year. The only accurate way to detect a weak battery is with professional equipment. Check your battery periodically to make sure that its fluid level is correct and that there is no visible discharge or leakage around the battery's top. If battery caps are removable, check the fluid level monthly. Avoid contact with corrosive deposits and battery acid. Modern car batteries consist of lead plates suspended in a water-diluted acid bath.  If you have a sealed battery, you're essentially off the hook, but if you've got a traditional battery, check its fluid levels and fill to the brim using only distilled water.

   The Nissan Altima was introduced in 1993 and has definitely grown up since it's debut. Over the past two decades, the Altima has developed from it's original compact-class size to a mid-size sedan. And also from a mediocre offering to a very good one. It has gradually been upsized and toned down to fit its mission as Nissan's most mainstream vehicle. Starting out in the compact family and then going through a strong sporty phase, the Altima is now considered one of the most comfortable, affordable and fuel efficient family sedans on the road today. Exceptional seating and an interior that is tightly assembled are some highlights. The new Altima also boasts more safety and technology, coming with standard Bluetooth and streaming audio as well as an optional wide-angle rearview camera, satellite radio and lane-departure warning systems. Nissan Unveils New 370Z NISMO Roadster Concept

The 2015 Chicago Auto Show was lucky enough for Nissan to grace its presence with the all new 370Z NISMO Roadster. Not only is this little baby good enough for speedsters, Nissan explains that the Roadster is perfect for driving outside the race track, making it very versatile and appealing to many different auto enthusiasts. Nissan tells us that the Roadster has its own unique engine, suspension, exterior and interior features and is quite different from the standard 370Z model.

The 370Z offers a striking body style that gives it that racecar feel while still having the ability for luxury car fanatics to take it for a spin on the freeway. Pierre Loing, Nissan's vice president of Product Planning for North America states that the company "thinks the 370Z NISMO Roadster Concept would be a tremendous addition to the long and distinguished history of Z sports cars."

Nissan Gets Down and Dirty

Nissan is getting bold and boasting they have the Worlds Cleanest Car. The residence of Chicago are being asked to venture through the city's muckiest streets. Introducing an all-new paint job that claims to repel even the muddiest of puddles. The LEAF is being revealed at the Chicago Auto Show.

Creators are excited to demonstrate how the LEAF's exterior is covered with superhydrophobic and oleophobic paint that is said to fend off dirt, grime, and slush. The science behind this super paint consists of a special coating that creates air between the grime and the paint on the vehicle. Trial tests have proven that frost and sleet, to name a few, have been successfully warded off, leaving the vehicle virtually spotless.   

Nissan is hoping that the paint technology will be successful enough to begin using on other models as well. Imagine never having to give your car a bath again? Soon enough, you might not have to imagine...it will be the real deal.
